At this Dean's Lecture event, you'll have an opportunity to meet ASU's EPICS students who are not just imagining, but implementing solutions in our community and the world.
From ensuring clean drinking water and a business opportunity for schoolgirls in Africa to encouraging healthy lifestyles and protecting people from natural disasters here at home, EPICS students at ASU are putting innovation into action.
- Using the latest advances in arsenic filtration, 33 Buckets has designed a filter that will provide a girls' school in rural Bangladesh and the surrounding community with clean, arsenic-free water.
- SafeSIPP has designed a device that both transports and purifies contaminated water for developing countries with limited access to clean drinking water.
- Phoenix Ride & Bike's bike share system benefits the environment while providing Phoenix citizens with a healthier transportation option that connects them to the community and local businesses.
- What's the next step? Up. Piano Stairs is a project designed to promote the well-being of America and its people. No more boring and tiring stairs. Enjoy the piano tunes as you climb up the stairs.
- Project TOTO is designing above ground tornado shelters by modifying shipping containers. This lower cost shelter will allow more shelters to be built and facilitate easier entry, making shelters more accessible.
EPICS—Engineering Projects in Community Service—is a unique program that brings together multidisciplinary teams of students to design, build and implement engineering solutions for non-profit, educational and government organizations.
The 2011-2012 Dean’s Spring Lecture Series is brought to you by the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University.
All events are free, but space is limited. Registration is required. Light refreshments are served prior to the lecture to allow you to meet our guest lecturer.
